Hello Amanda - I have been living with chronic illness and pain all my life, and a good dose of trauma too. I have my ups and downs (lately, more downs than ups), and like you I have found journaling very helpful. But the thing I've found most helpful in dealing with my challenges is the inner work - understanding the pain and shame, and nurturing self-compassion for myself. It's a process, but a worthwhile one. Just because we have scars or are different does not lessen our value. You got this!
